Day 46. The seventh and last state of our adventure. Murfreesboro, NC

Leaving Williamsburg, VA at 8am and arriving at Murfreesboro, NC at 4pm. Moving into the last of our states to explore after Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia and now North Carolina!  A longish day that included a ferry ride across the James River under cloudy skies in the AM yielding to mostly sunny skies and high humidity with temperatures around 85 degrees.
An 11 mile ride south got us back to Old Jamestown and the free ferry across the James River. We timed it perfectly and were the last ones to board the ferry south to Scotland, VA.
John and I pose for our fans as the ferry heads across the river.  I don't know why but ferry rides are always so much fun.
On the other side of the river cars are lined up for the Jamestown bound ferry as we start to ride the remainder of our 78 mile trip south into NC.
Riding a backroads route that James had built for us we had very little traffic to contend with but we did have some minor flooding from the rains that have fallen on the mid-Atlantic seaboard lately as can be seen in his photo of James riding the high spot of the road.
Turtles seemed to be busy finding high and sunny ground today too. This was a big boy that we stopped to capture with our cameras. So little traffic we left him to finish crossing all by himself today.

And for an "action" selfie by Angela with John in his common spot bringing up and protecting us from the rear from approaching traffic. He does a great job of letting us know if cars/trucks are coming up behind us and then helping to slow them down before they pass us. He really has become great at doing this and I appreciate it very much.

One of the challenges of James' backroads route was it was a little too backroads, that is we could never find a place to get something to eat or drink. After 35 miles of riding we gave up and crashed this nice home driveway and threw down a picnic right there on the driveway. We're still looking for something cold to drink and maybe some AC on this hot day so I'm using my feeble interment skills to try to find a likely target.
The town of Sedley about 12 miles away was supposed to have a market. Alas, it was closed again according to the postmaster at the Post Office so James (desperate for a bathroom) took advantage of the volunteer fire department where we also found cold tap water and bottled water as well as directions. John, who served on his local Fire Department Board back home swapped info and stories with the fireman on duty this warm day.
There's always time to stop under the shade of a tree and pet a little kitty. 😼

Entering Murfreesboro town limits and looking for our own sanctuary in addition to the birds for the night!
Cooling our heels at the beginning of a nice evening on the front porch of the Flanagan B&B. Ang has the "Hangry's" as she tries to round up us boys for dinner. We better hurry fast.
James reviews tomorrow route with us as we wait for our food at the Napoli Italian restaurant down the street. It was a nice meal followed by a warm evening walk back to the B&B.

A great shot by John of the Flanagan B&B from Main St  while James and I sip our freshly bought beers and Agela her tea.
